HM King’s Guard and the
Edinburgh Military Tattoo

Each year, one of the highlights of the Scottish social calendar is the
Military Tattoo that takes place high up within the fortified walls of Edinburgh
Castle. A mixture of much loved “Pomp and Circumstance”, together with new
and daring performances are presented to thrilled audiences that come from all
round the world and often have to book their seats more than a year in advance.
One of the greatest “adverts” for Norway at this event, and by now a
traditional part of the festivities, is the participation by HM King’s Guard.
Our guest speaker this evening has attended all 5 of their visits to Edinburgh,
and in later years has been the Contingent Commander.
Major
(Retd) Nils
Egelien has had a long and distinguished military career, and has served at the
NorMASH (Mobile Army Surgical Hospital) in South Korea. He is an active member
of the Korean Veterans Federation and also of HM King’s Guard Veterans
Federation. As a tribute to his dedication and valued services, he was awarded
the honour of being allowed to wear the Edinburgh Tattoo Tartan. His talk will
give us an insight into HM The King’s Guard and their participation at the
Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
