Our Christmas celebration this year will have a musical flavour – and
a very Scottish one at that. After our traditional “julemat” dinner, we will
be entertained by a special video, depicting the history of the Bagpipe,
together with musical interludes from the pipes. Ron Campbell Allison will
introduce the video, which he says covers the development and
use of the Bagpipe during times of peace and (especially) of war. Much emphasis
is put on the importance of the Bagpipe as a moral weapon during both World War
I and World War II. The Committee believes that to enlighten
ourselves on such a very Scottish subject as the history of the Bagpipe is most
certainly in line with the basic concept of our Society, and we hope that you
will take this opportunity to learn more about “our National Instrument”! |
