It is with great pleasure that your Committee can confirm that this year’s Burn’s Night Supper will once again be held at the superbly stylish and wonderfully “oldie worldie” club atmosphere which we have enjoyed in recent years at Eckbo. A more fitting “gentleman’s club” is hard to find in Norway and our celebrations with Haggis, Whisky, Tartan and Bagpipes is now firmly rooted as a tradition within the gracefully panelled walls of this fine establishment. Charles MacLean, who is Editor-at-large for ”Whisky Magazine”, will present the Immortal Memory. Mr MacLean is Scotland’s leading whisky authority and has written prolifically on the subject over the past 18 years, he has also broadcast on TV and radio and has presented lectures and tastings both in the UK and abroad. He chairs the “Nosing Panel” for the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, and in 1991 he was elected “Keeper of the Quaich” – which is the highest honour the whisky industry can bestow. As I write, the “famous beastie” is about to start its perilous journey over the North Sea, and with God, MacSween and Tollvesenet willing, all should be in place by the big night. Regrettably we will have to raise the subsidised admission price for members to 450 kroner, but the price for our guests will remain unchanged at 600 kroner. Once again I feel compelled to mention here, that it is in no small way due to the generosity of many of the Norwegian wine and spirit agents that we will be able to honour the Immortal Memory of the great bard himself, in our accustomed style. As usual, there will be an after-dinner bar, with the usual popular selection of drinks at very reasonable prices. |
