Ladies Night 14 June 2001 Dear Caledonians Bjørn Dæhli has been forced to retire and Bjarte Engen Vik has decided to rest on his laurels, but they are the only the latest in a long line of champions who have brought excitement to the world and fame to Norway, as well as making the country a skiing nation to be reckoned with. As was intimated at the AGM our Summer Meeting with Ladies will be visiting Holmenkollen Ski Museum on the 14th. of June at 6.15 p.m. There, in the comfort of a warm (we hope!) summer evening, we will be guided round the wintery exhibits and have the opportunity to enjoy the view from the top of the Holmenkollen Jump tower - and be not a little impressed by the courage and skill required to set off down that steep slope before the launch into space with, hopefully, a safe landing and a winning jump as a result! We will also see how others have used skis as a means of transport to and from both the North and South Poles, gaining respect and honour for themselves and their country in the process of battling the elements. So, if you are an eager skier, or even if your skiing days are few and far between, there is sure to be something of interest to be seen and learned during the one hour in the Museum. Having completed our guided tour, we however, won't be required to do anything more strenuous than stroll down to Holmenkollen Restaurant where shrimps and white wine will be served and we can continue our evening together. Practical details are as follows: Entrance fee to Holmenkollen Museum and Tower: charge of Kr. 50,- per. person Shrimps and white wine at Holmenkollen Restaurant can be enjoyed at the subsidised cost of Kr. 250,- per person. All other beverages and food must be ordered and paid for by those ordering. For those wishing to travel to Holmenkollen by Public Transport there are two "trikker/trams" which seem to be convenient, from Majorstua Station : Line 1 to Frognerseteren leaving Majorstua Station at 17.28 and 17.43. Travel time is estimated to be 20 minutes and the walk up to the Ski Museum should take about 10 -15 minutes). The Committee wishes everyone a pleasant and interesting evening with a good turnout of Members and their Ladies. |
