This event is always a highlight in our social calendar, but on this occasion there is particular reason to look forward to the evening. Our new Patron, The Rt. Hon. The Earl of Caithness PC, Lord Malcolm Sinclair, has confirmed that he will be present at Eckbo on the 25th January, making this Burns Supper hopefully not unique, but very special indeed! The classic Norwegian architecture and stylish interior atmosphere of Eckbo creates the perfect framework within which to welcome our new Patron for the first time. Yet another piece of excellent news is that, as can be seen from the above, the "Immortal Memory" will be delivered this year by our new Patron. Also a very good reason for attending. A short "portrait" of the Earl is presented on his site, and you will no doubt find it interesting reading. Our particular example of the "Great Chieftain o' the Puddin'-race" has been duly ordered and, with the blessing of all the Powers that be (and any others which might assist an easy passage through Customs!), we should sit down to our annual treat from MacSweens as is our custom. As has been intimated in the last Call to Meeting, an improvement in the administration of the evening's Grand Draw has been decided upon, and five main prizes will be drawn DURING our time at table. This means that everyone will be present for this initial draw and see the results for themselves. The subsidised admission price for Members will be Kr. 500.-. Each ticket will be numbered and represent a number in the Grand Draw, giving five chances to win! Tickets for Guests will be similarly numbered and will cost Kr. 650,-. An after-dinner Raffle will also be held, in keeping with our regular meeting tradition. It is again worth mentioning that it is largely due to the generosity of many important sponsors, that we will be able to honour the Immortal Memory of the Bard in our accustomed manner. As usual, there will be an after-dinner Bar, While it is flattering that there are so many Guests who wish to attend our Burns Nights, and this is not to be discouraged, this will be an historic occasion for the Society and hopefully many Members will wish to attend. It would therefore be appreciated if Members limited the number of Guests to no more than one each. PLEASE NOTE: Our Chairman of the House Committee, Chris Maile, will be unavailable to take your reservations, so please contact the Hon. Secretary, Norman Henderson at either of the telephone numbers, or the E-mail address listed here, by the evening of Friday 18th January 2002, at the latest. Please also give the names of your Guests. Your Committee looks forward to the pleasure of your company and to another most enjoyable and successful Gathering. With Every Good Wish for Christmas and a Peaceful New Year. |
